Ordinations at Adhisthana

By Sadayasihi on Tue, 4 May, 2021 - 21:05

We are delighted to announce that five public ordinations took place at Adhisthana this afternoon. Four of the five new dharmacarinis were due to be ordained in 2020, but the Covid crisis has meant that several different plans for their ordination retreat had to be cancelled. But finally, five of them arrived here from various quarters of the UK and mainland Europe, along with their preceptors, in the midst of their predominantly online retreat.  High winds, heavy rain and...

Friendship: Duty, Delight and Freedom

Friendship: Duty, Delight and Freedom

By Maitriyogini on Sat, 17 Apr, 2021 - 12:50

What kind of friend are you? What kind of friend would you like to be?

Is there any limitation to the heights that faithful friendship can reach?

Explore the possibilities of friendship with brothers and sisters in the sangha, through looking at traditional understandings of friendship in society and the spiritual life.

We will draw primarily on The Duties of Brotherhood in Islam seminar, with supporting material from the seminar on the Sigalavada Sutta. Both texts were studied by Sangharakshita in 1983. With The Duties of Brotherhood in Islam, he took...

Individuality: Self-Contained and Boundless (Online Order/Mitra event from Adhisthana)
Led by Ratnaguna and Saddhanandi
17-21 February

Am I an individual, or just part of the group?

This is a question we need to keep trying to penetrate more deeply whether we are a Mitra or an Order member. It is a question that is central to the development of a saṅgha, a spiritual community, no individuals, no saṅgha. Any consideration of what the saṅgha is must therefore include as full an understanding as...

Ordinations in a Time of Covid-19: Watch Upcoming Public Ordinations Online

Ordinations in a Time of Covid-19: Watch Upcoming Public Ordinations Online

By Sadayasihi on Tue, 22 Sep, 2020 - 15:42

The impact of the coronavirus has been felt on all aspects of our daily lives as well as the life of our sangha - severely curtailing the ability to hold in-person retreats, including ordination retreats. Ordination is a significant point in the lives of Dharma farers in our community: many of whom have been training for ordination for a number of years, in preparation for joining the Triratna Buddhist Order. The public ordination ceremony marks the deepening of their commitment...

Bhante’s Birthday Puja

Bhante’s Birthday Puja

By Khemabandhu on Tue, 25 Aug, 2020 - 15:26

On Wednesday 26th August, Adhisthana will be celebrating the anniversary of Bhante Sangharakshita’s birthday, as will be happening throughout Triratna. I find it hard to believe that only two years ago Bhante was still alive and would have been enjoying the celebrations at Adhisthana – probably with a vegan coffee and walnut cake that he would share with all those around him.

It is also the day when the Triratna centres continue with the 108 Year Puja that happens every year. I...

Donation to the Buddhist Centre Online

By Maitriyogini on Wed, 13 May, 2020 - 17:08

Since Adhisthana closed, we have been cancelling retreats and refunding those booked on a rolling basis. When contacting people we have also been inviting them to donate their deposit (or more), to be distributed to those Triratna centres and organisations that will need additional help with funding during these uncertain times.

There has been a massive outpouring of generosity from people, and you can see some of the team talking about this in more detail in one of our blog post ‘...

365 Days of Bhante

By Maitriyogini on Fri, 27 Mar, 2020 - 14:06

A significant aspect of our work here at Adhisthana is to keep alive the spirit of our founder and teacher, Bhante Urgyen Sangharakshita, in the years after his passing on the 20th October 2018. There are many ways that we do this - by passing on his teachings; providing a context for people to visit his last residence and resting place; preserving and making available his library; and by celebrating his anniversaries.

We would like to bring more of the flavour of...

Triratna Responds to the Coronavirus

By Sadayasihi on Fri, 27 Mar, 2020 - 09:57

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to spread across the world, how have Triratna Buddhist Centres and team-based right livelihood businesses been responding?

By now most Triratna Buddhist Centres and groups have closed their doors - but many have opened up on the digital universe and invited their sanghas to join them online. Various Triratna Centres across the world are now offering courses classes, pujas, urban retreats and other events online. Now is a great time to try out joining in some of the...
