From Triratna News on Fri, 6 Dec, 2013 - 13:23Sucimani writes with news of some unusual developments around Triratna’s Croydon Buddhist Centre, saying - “Over the past few weeks, bags and bags of clothing - including a very posh hat that you might wear to Ascot - have been arriving on the Centre’s doorstep. And not just clothes - there’s been a whole assortment of interesting gifts and much-loved books, CDs and DVDs. Luckily we have quite a lot of room in our basement! And...

Karuna Trust seeks newsletter designer

From Jobs, Volunteering & Communities on Fri, 6 Dec, 2013 - 12:47Could you be the Karuna Trust’s next newsletter designer…..?

Every year Karuna sends an annual newsletter to 7300 Karuna supporters.

In this year’s newsletter, you’ll meet Mahesh Pednekar. He is so grateful for the care, education and encouragement he received at our hostel in Goa. Mahesh’s ‘untouchable status’ meant he had to overcome great hardship, to become a dentist. Since 1984 we’ve been able to send over 10,000 people like Mahesh to...

Amtabha mantra

Day 20 is the Amitabha mantra. Amitabha is a deep red archetypal Buddha. He is particularly associated with love and loving kindness, and with meditation. When we chant the Amitabha mantra you could imagine feeling connected to a great red sun of love and stillness; to the heartbeat of loving kindness. You could visualize or feel rays of ruby light streaming towards you and filling you with love, easing your suffering and stilling your heart and mind. The mantra is...

Mindfulness of breathing meditation

Day 19 is a meditation on the breath, seeing the nature of thoughts. In the meditation we label our thoughts to help us disentangle from them and see their nature more clearly. When we catch ourselves caught up in our thoughts we can label it as thinking. This can help us let go of whatever it is we are caught up in. Have a day mind full of breath. The music has been composed by The Alaska None.

Kamalashila's Quarterly No.1

From Buddhist Centre Features on Wed, 4 Dec, 2013 - 17:25
A delightful conversation with Kamalashila, one of the most experienced meditation teachers in the Triratna Buddhist Order. This first interview of a proposed quarterly series was recorded in summer 2012 and affords some lovely insights into Kamalashila’s own history of practice as it interweaves with that of the Triratna Community since the early 1970s. A thought-provoking look back at the roots of our community, and an optimistic look forward in the light of many changes and new kinds of realities…

Womens Order Weekend

From Adhisthana on Wed, 4 Dec, 2013 - 09:51Hi all,
we are very excited here at Adhisthana as we prepare for the Women’s UK and Ireland Area Order weekend which begins tomorrow. This will be our biggest residential event yet - with over 140 Dharmacharinis attending. It is stretching our resources and unfortunately we have had to put a cap on numbers after consulting with our cook and those looking after the event. So, there is a waiting list although last night we were able to offer...
