Meditation Tuesdays - Meditations from the Anuruddha Sutta

From Online Meditators on Mon, 6 Jul, 2015 - 22:38

On July 7th we’ll be starting a new six week series of meditations based on the Anuruddha Sutta and the Buddha’s description of how the qualities of a Dharma farer relate to the practices they engage in - especially in meditation itself.

This Dhamma is for one who is modest, not for one who is self-aggrandizing. This Dhamma is for one who is content, not for one who is discontent. This Dhamma is for one who is reclusive, not for one

Reflections on BAM in Dublin

From Buddhist Action Month 2015 on Mon, 6 Jul, 2015 - 20:24

One of the biggest difficulties one has to face into when one wants to change the world – whether this is helping to bring about world peace, tackling climate change, ending famine, overthrowing an unjust system – is the fact that it is impossible to do on your own.  Think of Avalokitesvara, prior to the intervention of Amitabha: he fell into despair at the realisation of how little a difference he could make as just one being on his own.

I feel...

The Adhisthana community 'at home'

The Adhisthana community 'at home'

From Adhisthana on Mon, 6 Jul, 2015 - 13:01

Last week the resident community at Adhisthana spent a few days ‘at home’ together. There was some study led by Parami on the Dasadhamma Sutta - the ten points to be reflected on by one who has ‘gone forth’; we had couple of inspiring and energising sessions facilitated by Saddhanandi, evoking the vision of Adhisthana and imagining what it will become in five years time; and a day spent exploring how we live together as a community to serve that...

Dharmabyte: The Story of Little Ugly

From Free Buddhist Audio on Mon, 6 Jul, 2015 - 11:00

Best-known stories brought together humour and lightness in Buddhist scriptures. Our FBA Dharmabyte today is called “The Story of Little Ugly” from the talk, “Encounters with Enlightenment”, by Saddhaloka, the author of a book of re-tellings of stories from the Pali Canon, the oldest collection of texts about the life and teachings of the Buddha. Here Saddhaloka talks about the tradition of storytelling in Buddhism, and recounts some of his own favourites. His obvious love of...

Une excuse

From Centre bouddhiste Triratna de Paris on Sun, 5 Jul, 2015 - 22:18
