Amalaketu has been involved in sustainability for 20 years, and has worked as a low carbon engineering consultant delivering sustainable buildings. He has been instrumental in developing a scheme to help Triratna Buddhist Centres become more sustainable, through green energy, recycling and fairtrade. He is also the chair of the Colchester Buddhist Centre. 

One thing ‘The World Needs Now’ is to become more aware of the consequences of our actions on our planet, other people, and future generations!

A growing number of Triratna Buddhist centres have already completed the ten-point action points entailed in joining the list of certified Sustainable Buddhist Centres: Amsterdam, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Colchester, Essen, Metta Vihara, Norwich, Sheffield, Taraloka and Tiratanaloka.

Sunday 26th April, Bristol Buddhist Centre 9.30am—4.30pm

A practice day for anyone familiar with Triratna practices, to introduce Triratna’s Sustainable Buddhist Centre project and as a warm-up for Buddhist Action Month in June. We’ll explore:

  • what sustainability means to us, our sangha and the world
  • our responses to phenomena such as climate change, the extinction crisis, environmental degradation, animal cruelty etc
  • how our practice brings resilience, fuelled by wisdom and compassion
  • how the sangha brings us together with similar concerns and
