Kamalashila was one of the earliest public preceptors, one of three Order members whom Sangharakshita asked to carry out ordinations on his behalf in India in 1985. In all, he became a preceptor to 38 Order members. In the 1990s he lived at Madhyamaloka as part of the Preceptors’ College Council, and subsequently was active in the Preceptors’ College.

After Sangharakshita’s death, the Uddiyana Trustees (the charity which is dedicated to preserving his legacy) renamed the annexe where Sangharakshita spent his final years, Urgyen House.

Urgyen House was Sangharakshita’s home for the last five-and-a-half years of his life. This building and the Sangharakshita Library (which is located in a different building at Adhisthana) provided not only living quarters for Sangharakshita but a place for his entire collection of books, letters, papers, thangkas and artefacts.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 30th November, so if you haven’t already, please do share your feelings of gratitude for the life of Urgyen Sangharakshita. To remind you, here are the criteria and means of submission:

Because the book will be professionally bound we ask you to follow these following simple instructions. The page will need to be:

A4
Landscape (wider than it is tall)
Plain paper
Left hand margin of 25mm to allow for binding
Right hand margin 20mm for balance
