Lokeshvara speaks of the culmination of metta in Equanimity, and describes two ways of seeing Upekkha – as the outward radiation of goodwill that makes no distinction between living beings; and as the inner attitude of complete equanimity as life flows in, the attitude when abandoning the welcoming and rebelling of the worldly winds.

We’ve been in silence together today and followed a more meditative programme, absorbing the rich input of the last days. Saddhaloka’s presentation on Metta and Wisdom, where he spoke of the unity of the dual aspects of the path – samata and vipassana, wisdom and compassion, merit and insight – and described how they are really a part of a single process, with reference to some stories of the Buddha’s life and the teachings of Atisha on sunyatakarunagarbha.
