Let's Talk About Sex

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 20 Aug, 2025 - 00:00
Join Sanghagita as she will explore the challenge of leading a life of stillness, simplicity and contentment in a society of rampant consumption fuelled by, and itself fuelling, discontentment. How should we behave? What is ‘Right’ and ‘Wrong’? And does that even matter anyway? In the 1960s, Sangharakshita and other early Western Buddhists asked questions like these. They critiqued society’s views about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ behaviour in the light of The Buddha’s teachings on ethics and karma from 2,500 years earlier in ancient India. However, the world we live in now is very different again from when Sangharakshita gave his lectures on ethics. So what are the current ethical issues that we need to think about as practicing Buddhists in our time, in our society?

A Power that is Greater (FBA Podcast)

From Free Buddhist Audio on Sat, 16 Aug, 2025 - 11:00

Subhuti gives us an early sight of the developing vision behind the Sangharakshita Library and Study Centre at Adhisthana, via a stirring evocation of the need for a deep knowledge of the Dharma strong enough to meet the considerable challenges of the modern world. In recalling Sangharakshita’s conviction that something was working through him, Subhuti suggests that we cannot hope to understand the depth of vision available to us without fully immersing ourselves in the study of our...

Summer days...

From Akashavana on Fri, 15 Aug, 2025 - 15:50

It’s quiet around here and everyone’s moving slowly and finding shade where they can. We’re also appreciating being able to dip ourselves into the nearby reservoir…blissfully cool water in beautiful surrounds, which feels like the best gift ever…

Our community led practice retreat was great! We all really enjoyed and appreciated it and have put dates in for autumn next year - do get in touch if you’d like to join us for 10 days of silent practice in a communal context...

Resignation of Dhammapattiya

From Order Connection on Thu, 14 Aug, 2025 - 09:31

Dear Order members,

I regret to announce the resignation from the Order of Dharmacharini Dhammapattiya. Dhammapattiya, from Bury St Edmunds, England, was ordained in Tuscany in 2000, with Sanghadevi as her public preceptor and Samata as her private preceptor.

Sanghadevi accepted Dhammapattiya’s resignation on 21 June. However it has taken some time to finalise a resignation letter which Sanghadevi and I could agree to publish. Dhammapattiya has requested that it is myself who makes...
