The Ennobling Eightfold Path: Vision & Transformation
A new term starting this Thursday 11th April.

This term we’ll be treading a path together, one that winds its way through all the corners of our lives – externally, in how we interact with the world, and internally, how we know ourselves.

This is the Ennobling Eightfold Path, which is in truth two intertwining paths, the Path of Vision, when we glimpse the possibility of freedom from our conditioning and a life of unfettered compassion and wisdom. And the Path of Transformation, where we work to change our actions, speech and mind in the light of that Vision.

Dear friends,
Buddhism offers us an inspiring vision of what it means to be a human being, but it doesn’t stop there. It also gives us ways to transform our emotions - and our life - in the light of this vision.

Using a combination of teaching, discussion, meditation and practical exercises, this six-week course will help you deepen your vision, develop more emotional warmth and positivity, and apply the wisdom of Buddhism to all areas of your life.

It is suitable for anyone familiar with the Mindfulness of Breathing and Metta Bhavana.

Thursday 7-9.30pm from 9th June - 14th July at St Mary’s church hall, Frome.

If you’d like to reserve a place on the course please email: frometriratna@gmail.com

INVITATION TO WEEKEND RETREAT

Remember meditation retreats?

That chance to go off-line, forget about To Dos, relax in beautiful countryside, meditate more deeply and open to the radiance of your mind.

I’d like to invite you to enjoy all of this once again, or perhaps for your first time. Come on a four day retreat over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend 1-5 June with me and others from Frome.

The retreat takes place at Adhisthana, an international Buddhist Centre near Malvern. It’s open to complete newcomers as well as experienced meditators. The programme includes meditation instruction, yoga, exploration of the nature of mind, periods of silence, and communal ritual – all set in the glorious Herefordshire countryside.

I will be co-leading the retreat along a team that includes one of my teachers, Maitreyabandhu who is the author of Life with Full Attention and The Journey and the Guide.

Please book below and reply to let me know you’re coming so we can organise lift-sharing. E: Frome Triratna

With warmest wishes,

Amalavajra

SPRING - SUMMER TERM

This is to let you know that next term we're trying a new pattern for Frome Triratna Regulars' night.

We'll be holding Wednesday Sangha evenings on alternate weeks at Orchardleigh studio – for meditation and other activities, such as reflection, ritual,  discussion, walking meditation, or exploring any topic that inspires the facilitator.

The fortnightly pattern starts on Wednesday 20 April after Easter, and runs every other Wednesday through to the end of July.

Our team is also offering men’s and women’s study groups, and newcomers’ courses on Thursday evenings (which could be a refresher for anyone, though you’d need to commit to all 6 sessions)

On Wednesdays there will be a chance to mark Buddha Day (18 May) and Dharma Day (13 July), and hopefully other opportunities over the summer to gather for shared food and/ or shared practice.

Evening dates: wed 20 April, wed 4 May, wed 18 May, wed 1 June, wed 15 June, wed 29 June, wed 13 July, wed 27 July

Frome sangha are delighted to invite you to our first face to face course on Buddhism and meditation for two years.

Your mind has vast potential for freedom and happiness. Buddhism calls this Awakening. And it offers a path of training to achieve it.

But this potential can feel far from our everyday experience. Our minds are often troubled by restlessness, anger and confusion.

This has always been the human condition. For 2,500 years Buddhism has offered a path to help people just like you to free their minds and so change their lives.

FROME TRIRATNA WEDNESDAY SANGHA NIGHT - NOW AT 8PM

Sailing the Worldly Winds
A Buddhist Way through the Ups and Downs of Life

Dear Sangha Friends,
I hope you are staying well, and adapting smoothly to life's changes. At our next seven Wednesday evenings, we'll be exploring the Eight Worldly Winds - a teaching from the Buddha that's very relevant for our turbulent times. Please notice the change of start time - 8pm, not 7.30pm. You'll find all the material at the wonderful Dharma Toolkit here including

  • a short talk each 'day' (so for us that's each week) from a range of inspiring Triratna Order members
  • a free ebook by Vajragupta, which unpacks the whole theme - this is only available free until April 13th, so download it this week!
  • reflections, exercises and suggestions for daily inspiration
  • a practice diary, to help you make resolutions and reminders
  • and why not link up with a 'Dharma buddy' to keep in touch about your explorations during the week.

We're now starting the Zoom meeting at 8pm to give time for you to listen to the short talk at 7.30pm, and get yourself a cup of tea. At 8pm we'll gather on Zoom, have a community wave at each other, then go into small groups for about 40 minutes to share how we're doing and to explore the material. Then we'll rejoin the main meeting, and end the evening with a short meditation, finishing by 9.15pm.

As before, the Zoom invitation is below - click on the first link. It will be the same link for each Wednesday evening. You'll need to insert the Meeting ID, and also the Password when prompted to do so.

Looking forward very much to seeing you there!
Dhammadassin, for the Frome Order Team

Frome Wednesday and Saturday classes - update

Dear friends
Following today’s briefing by the Prime Minister, we have regretfully decided to pause our meditation  and Buddhist activities around Frome until (at least) late April.
With so much global uncertainty, the best we can do is take care, stay informed and grounded. We’ll keep you posted when it seems safe to re-start classes. The Wednesday night regulars’ class, which was due to begin again Wed 29 April, and the Saturday morning introductory meditation at the Welshmill Hub will begin again once the advice on non-essential gathering changes.

Practising mindfulness and loving-kindness during times of crisis is ultimately what supports us all to stay emotionally positive and to grow. We therefore encourage us all  to bear each other in mind with metta, look out for community members, keep meditating, and stay inspired.

You could check out all these free resources:

– Find hundreds of inspiring talks and guided meditations on Triratna’s internationaKeep an eye on thebuddhistcentre.com who are looking to provide a programme of led morning sits and Dharma talks, online.

- There is an endless quantity of Dharma talks available at freebuddhistaudio.com

- And of course you can order Dharma books at WindhorsePublications.com

The Buddha taught that we are deeply interconnected in seen and unseen ways. The corona virus is effecting us all and we as a community send our well-wishing and care to all those around the world who've been severely affected – or are particularly vulnerable in relation to it.

Best wishes from the Frome Triratna Buddhist Order team:
Vajrasara, Nagamudra, Vandika, Dhammadassin, Karunika, Kamalini, Rijumani, Cittapala
