Doing it for Others

From Coogee Buddhist Group on Tue, 19 May, 2015 - 01:23

Sometimes there is a view that meditation is self-absorbed and even that the time might be better spent doing things of a more hands on nature.

But the Buddhist notion is that to get oneself sorted out is the most helpful thing one can do for everyone!

To know yourself, to cultivate a heart that is truly kind will bring immeasurable benefit to the world ……..

For this reason there’s a very traditional practice that Buddhist have called ‘Transference of Merit’ - at the end of...

Dharmic reasons to take part in BAM: No 2

From Buddhist Action Month 2015 on Sun, 17 May, 2015 - 00:49

In his document, Dharmic reasons to take part in BAM, (updated by Dhammadassin) Lokabandhu writes:

“2015 could just be the year the world gets serious about the danger of climate change. For years the world’s scientists have been warning that we are on the verge of creating planet-wide runaway climate change - but the world’s response has been pretty apathetic.

It is becoming ever clearer that we will have to ‘go forth’ from our present habit of unchchecked fossil fuel exploitation: the...

What is DANCE?

What is DANCE?

From Buddhist Action Month 2015 on Fri, 15 May, 2015 - 12:00

Dharma Action Network for Climate Engagement (DANCE) is a “space for connecting to explore the breadth of possible Dharma responses to climate change and related issues.”

Originating with Gaia House, in Devon, UK, a centre connected with the Insight Meditation tradition, its publicity does not yet reflect awareness of BAM (which is growing but not yet that well known). Maybe nearby Triratna sanghas would like to make contact.

Find DANCE on Facebook.
