From Buddhist Action Month 2015 on Fri, 19 Jun, 2015 - 15:09

Parami interviews Dhammadinna and Khemasuri at the end of a retreat at Adhisthana looking at how Buddhists can help promote change in the wider world.

Based on the Dasadhamma Sutta (Discourse on The Ten Dhammas) this investigation of the unconscious paradigms we live by raises much to ponder for anyone who would like to see a kinder, more just and equitable society.

From Buddhist Action Month 2015 on Thu, 18 Jun, 2015 - 19:41

Hello friends,

Here are some notes I took on discussions at a recent Dharma Teachers Gathering that I attended in New York. Climate change was one of three major topics we discussed about the Dharma meeting the world. The other two topics were ‘mainstream’ Mindfulness and issues around race. We are not alone in being interested in these things!

Another document is also attached, simple steps to take, by Bhikkhu Bodhi.

From Triratna News on Thu, 18 Jun, 2015 - 11:56

Where are Scotland's Buddhists?

From Triratna News on Thu, 18 Jun, 2015 - 11:56

Following the previous Triratna News post on Buddhist demographics in England and Wales, we’ve located the 2011 census figures for Scotland too, with help from reader Maureen Carroll. They show a much larger increase in Buddhist numbers than in England and Wales.

Between 2001 and 2011, the number of people in Scotland declaring Buddhism to be their current religion increased from 6,830 to 12,795.

Unfortunately the published geographical data is not as detailed as it is for England and Wales, Buddhism being lumped together with “All...

Kamalashila - The Buddha In Nature (A Talk for Buddhist Action Month 2015)

From Buddhist Action Month 2015 on Tue, 16 Jun, 2015 - 18:16

We asked Kamalashila to give a talk for Buddhist Action Month 2015. He responded with this beautifully focussed look at our whole relationship to nature and the elements: how the artificiality in our lives can get in the way of seeing what things are actually like - and what we might do about that in practice!

Kamalashila uses these reflections as a way into evoking a more natural, deeply encouraging perspective, one that allows us to open up to the reality the...

Where are the most Buddhists in England and Wales?

From Triratna News on Tue, 16 Jun, 2015 - 12:06

Where are the most Buddhists in England and Wales?

From Triratna News on Tue, 16 Jun, 2015 - 12:06

Numbers of Buddhists in England and Wales went up from 144,543 in 2001 to 247,743 in 2011 (0.4%) according to an overview recently published by the UK’s Office for National Statistics.

Use the interactive maps in the Overview to see Buddhist numbers area by area, including, interestingly, a rise in mid-Wales (but not the neighbouring county of Herefordshire in which Adhisthana is situated. The last census predates Triratna’s presence here.) The increase should not be interpreted simply as an increase...
