And since we just posted Natalie Willmer’s excellent talk on the Karaniya Metta Sutta, here’s a beautiful recording of it! It’s the classic Buddhist source-text for Metta, or Loving-Kindness - and the theme of the upcoming Triratna Urban Retreat.

It was chanted in Pali by Joe Richardson at the end of Triratna’s 2012 International Retreat, as the Buddhafield team gathered under canvas at the end of the retreat. We’ve remastered it...

Here she shares her thoughts on compassion as an intrinsic part of reality referring to Mandarava in ‘The Life and Liberation of Padmasambhava’ and describing how Bodhisattvas, messengers of the Dharma and embodiments of compassion, continue to suffer for lifetimes.

Listen to Natalie’s talk about the sutta, and here’s Joe’s chanting of the Pali as a separate audio post.

The Himalayas, 1950s - links to Triratna tradition

From Lights In The Sky on Thu, 31 Oct, 2013 - 17:28BACKGROUND is a 42 minute film I made with Ratnaketu in the style of a pilgrimage to the hermitages and monasteries of Kalimpong, Darjeeling and Sikkim assoiated with Urgyen Sangharakshita, the TBC’s founder, and his principal teachers, Tibetan, Indian and Chinese. A beautiful Himalayan peak, Khangchendzonga, overlooked a resurgence of Buddhism, rather ironically first in the ‘West’ and then the ‘East’.
