SAVING THE EARTH Course in Istanbul

From Buddhist Action Month 2016 on Fri, 3 Jun, 2016 - 14:25

One of the things I’m doing for Buddhist Action Month is offering a free 7 week meditation & Buddhism course called, “SAVING THE EARTH” based on Akuppa’s book. It started yesterday evening and I think it’s the largest (or joint largest) Buddhism course I’ve ever led here in Istanbul: 15 people are on the course :)

Confession: Refining Our Ethical Sensitivities

From Croydon Buddhist Centre on Fri, 3 Jun, 2016 - 01:00
This is the next in our series on Transforming Self and World through the sevenfold puja. In this talk Dharmasri helps us discover confession using extracts from pujas such as those from the sutra of golden light and the Vajrassatva puja. We consider what confession is not and then explore what it is, with an emphasis on self metta and the feeling of liberation that comes from having all of ourselves witnessed by others. This talk was given at the Croydon Buddhist Centre in May 2016 as part of the regular Saturday morning sangha class.

Ipswich Buddhist Centre- BAM- Dayasara reporting-in

From Buddhist Action Month 2016 on Tue, 31 May, 2016 - 21:21

Firstly I’m greatly impressed with the BAM postings thus far from other Centres and Groups-well done and best wishes for June and far, far beyond.

We’ve got a dedicated BAM Ipswich Facebook page, so do have a look. Plenty on environmental intiatives and commitments, and other apsects.

At our BAM-themed Sangha evening on Thursday 16th we will be launching a new care project, with a limited company and associated domain names. I hope it will be a modest start leading towards Buddhist values being more...

Dhammarati on Sikkha - a new project to review and develop training in the system of practice

From Triratna International Council on Mon, 30 May, 2016 - 18:24

I recently interviewed Dhammarati about an emerging project about the system of training in Triratna. It goes by the name of Sikkha (with a long a), which is a Pali word meaning ‘spiritual training’. It is about deepening our understanding of what and how we practice and teach within the Triratna community, and developing an explicit shared framework to talk about it.

Here, Dhammarati reflects on what is essential in Buddhist practice: a growth of awareness which leads to positive and rich emotion and a move away...

Peace meditation resources

From Buddhist Action Month 2016 on Mon, 30 May, 2016 - 11:12

If you are considering doing a public meditation for peace, here some resources you are free to use, adapt, change in any way you wish. With parliament planning to decide this year whether to spend £100 billion on renewing the UK’s nuclear weapons’ system, Sangharakshita’s call for peaceful action for nuclear disarmament seems more relevant than ever  (link to his talk in the idea document).

It might be nice for all those holding a sit to share their event on Facebook as well...
