Mara appears to me

Mara appears to me

From Stories From the Past and Present (Looking to the Future) on Mon, 7 Aug, 2017 - 12:54

Soon after my arrival at Adhisthana last Friday, I was sitting at my desk reflecting on current events, when, my thoughts coming to a pause, I gazed into the middle distance, suddenly aware that there was someone or something edging its way into my consciousness. I turned slightly to the left, bringing the newly-implanted Japanese-made lens of my right eye to bear on the phenomenon. And there he was, a swarthy, athletic figure of a man with long dark hair.

Metta for Merida

From Buddhist Action on Sun, 6 Aug, 2017 - 10:18

Dear friends, Vajranatha, and the Triratna Sangha in Venezuela, needs our help!

At the recent European chairs meeting Vajrnatha, the only order member in Venezuela, spoke movingly about the situation in Venezuela, and Merida, where he lives.

In the video he says  ”I really need help…. what’s happening in Venezuela is a humanitarian crisis. I would like Triratna to be able to respond to this crisis.”

Please watch this video and share it with your sangha friends. What can we do to help the situation? Can...

A Complex Personality: A Note

A Complex Personality: A Note

From Stories From the Past and Present (Looking to the Future) on Sat, 5 Aug, 2017 - 12:52

In the personal statement that I issued on December 30th 2016 I said, among other things, 1) that the FWBO/Triratna sometimes bore the marks not of the Dharma but of my own particular personality and 2) that that personality was a complex one.  These words have been the subject of much discussion within the Order and in some quarters they have been seriously misunderstood.  The fact that I spoke of the FWBO/Triratna sometimes bearing the marks not of...

SEEING WITH NEW EYES with Parami

SEEING WITH NEW EYES with Parami

From Triratna International Gathering 2017 - What The World Needs Now on Sat, 5 Aug, 2017 - 10:47

Parami is well known to many of us …. currently she is one the international order conveners, but is also known throughout the Spanish-speaking world as one of the early order members setting up the Valencia Buddhist Centre. Closer to home, and beyond that, she is much-loved for her open-hearted and straightforward commitment to bringing about the arising of bodhicitta, the intention for our community to benefit all being’.

On the International gathering she is offering this workshop -

Children and Families at the LBC

From Triratna Buddhist Families on Thu, 3 Aug, 2017 - 16:08

(Originally posted in the London Buddhist Centre newsletter, July 2017)

Beginnings

Ten years ago – my son Gowan then just three months old – I started meeting with other new mothers in the LBC library on a Wednesday morning. We would meditate and talk whilst our babies slept or rolled around on the floor together. Whether we were exploring metta, impermanence, the preciousness of human life or the simple need for more sleep it was a blessing and a relief to be...

The Worldly Winds 4: It's All About Me!

From Bristol Buddhist Centre on Thu, 3 Aug, 2017 - 01:00
“All worldly activities are as immaterial as chaff.” So said the Tibetan teacher Tsongkapa. Having explored the Eight Worldly Winds, and their effects upon us; having examined our response and looked at suggestions for ways of working, is there some overarching approach we could adopt? In short, what have we learned, and how can we put it in to practice? Taranita completes his series on The Worldly Winds with the fourth and final talk.

News from Bristol

From metta for merida on Wed, 2 Aug, 2017 - 14:24

On the recent ECA meeting several centres pledged to raise a total of £5000 to help the Venezuelan Sangha with travel expenses so they can take part in retreats outside Venezuela and Order Members can travel to support them.

Bristol is the first centre to respond. I was invited to give a ten minute talk at their regulars’ class about the situation in Venezuela. After the talk we did mettabhavana including Venezuela in the last stage. At the end...
