Join the Coding Team at Dharmachakra

This year, Dharmachakra (the team behind The Buddhist Centre Online and Free Buddhist Audio) is expanding. Thanks to grants from FutureDharma and the European Chairs’ Assembly, to mark our 5th birthday as a project we’re able to grow a little and move to the next phase – finally turning our attention to sustainable mobile development for all Triratna central websites and services. 

If the thought of helping us out with work on mobile applications and spaces excites you, we’d love to hear it! We’re looking for enthusiastic, motivated, highly skilled and confident developers who have a passion for telling people about the Dharma online. We’d love to have you volunteer with us on an ongoing basis as part of a friendly, inspired team - and we also have the possibility of some paid freelance work available at negotiable, Right Livelihood-friendly rates.

Here are some of the attributes we’re particularly interested in:

Development

  • Ease working with PHP 5 and 7
  • Experience working with unit testing, i.e. phpunit
  • Experience of REST and Json based API’s
  • Confidence with modern javascript development, i.e. VueJS, babel, webpack
  • CSS3/HTML5 standards with cross-browser testing
  • Experience with Version Control and GIT
  • Deep familiarity with MySQL databases and SQL queries.
  • The ability to onboard quickly with a development team and work well both collaboratively and, where needed, independently within a set of agreed parameters.

Devops/Sysadmin

  • Knowledge and experience of linux administration. User setup and access such as SSH.
  • Experience of advanced server configuration and client support preferable.
  • Database setup and configuration.
  • OS updates and package management.
  • Backups and snapshots.
  • Docker and container experience is desirable.
  • CI and CD experience desirable
  • Experience with Version Control and GIT
  • The ability to onboard quickly with a development team and work well both collaboratively and, where needed, independently within a set of agreed parameters.

iOS/Android Developer

  • Knowledge and experience of designing and working with the Android SDK using Google’s Material Design guidelines, including transposition of iOS designs.
  • Knowledge and experience of designing and working in the iOS SDK using Apple’s Human Interface guidelines.
