Animism Retreat - kinship with all life

Come and join Ratnadeva, Moksacara, Suryamani and Sanghasiha and team in Dartmoor for our summer open retreat.

How can we know ourselves in everything? How do animism and Buddhism cross-pollinate each other? We will explore these questions in the context of the global environmental crisis and the core Buddhist teachings of interconnection and compassion.

Coming together as a human community, we will be held and supported by the bountiful natural community of Frogmill - held by the gleaming eye of a raven and the magic of the hare’s breath. Through ritual, immersive practices and meditation, we will deepen our connection with the natural world and honour the intrinsic value and sacredness of all life.

Thursday 22 August 2024 to Tuesday 27 August 2024

Frogmill, nr. Throwleigh, Devon

Buddhafield Southeast Family-Friendly Retreat

As well as our main family-friendly retreats (Village 1 and 2) https://buddhafield.com/village-2-family-friendly-2024

We also offer smaller family-friendly retreats in the South-East. This fully catered retreat is held in beautiful woods near Herstmonceux in East Sussex, camping among the trees and surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of autumn.

Families as well as adults without children are welcome. There is a focus on little-and-often practice with meditation, talks, discussion groups, rituals and, most importantly, play. We explore how to weave dharma into our practice of being together.

Activities for the children are provided by the land, the imagination and the community as a whole.

Buddhafield Festival 2024 Hugs without drugs!

Hugs without drugs, fine without wine, fitter without bitter, laughter without the morning after (hangover), cheers without beers!

Buddhafield Festival is famous for providing a vibrant, loving, inclusive, playful space for conscious connection without the alcohol and drug-fuelled chaos of many events.

Why do conscious celebration and Buddhism go together?

Fundamentally, Buddhism is about clarity and awareness. The teachings, practices and ethics all point towards a fuller, deeper experience of life as it really is. When illusions of separation and resistance are stripped away, celebration, community and authentic living are the natural results. This is a vital path with the potential to create huge benefits and facilitate positive progress in the modern world.

Come and see for yourself.

You don’t have to be Buddhist to be at Buddhafield Festival. You don’t have to be living a sober life before or afterwards. All you need is a desire for something different and exciting – a way to connect with other humans, the planet and a sense of inner wellbeing.

See you out there.

Meditation at Buddhafield Events

'Meditation is the art of getting to know one's own mind; getting to know one's own mental and emotional states; getting to know oneself more and more deeply.

'It is on the basis of this self-knowledge that we can begin to encourage the awareness and kindness that will bring a sense of richness and fulfilment to our lives, and from which compassionate action can spring.'

From 'Change your Mind - A Practical Guide to Buddhist Meditation' by Paramananda.

Read all about how meditation is woven throughout everything we do, from intensive meditation retreats, to meditating with your children, and to meditating at the Buddhafield Festival.

With resources to support your practice and more in our newsletter.

Buddhafield Family-Friendly Events

Buddhafield has been a home from home to many families for decades; children and families growing year after year from the mossy ground of the Buddhafield. It's not surprising that people return to our events again every year to reconnect with the land, with each other and with the Buddha's Dharma.

Buddhafield - At Home with the Elements - Voices of the Rain
11th-25th February 2024 online

“Know the ways of the ones who take care of you, so that you may take care of them. Sustain the ones who sustain you and the earth will last forever.”

Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, 2013

This year, At Home With the Elements invites us to open our hearts, minds, arms and all our senses to the voices of the rain: the wisdom and the nourishment of the rest of the natural world. What insights from beyond ourselves might arrive? In what ways might we be guided to live in interconnection with our living home if we came to the elements without knowing, without agenda, without hurry, but with humility, openness and gratitude?

We’ll explore these themes and connect as a community, with daily meditation and Dharma talks every other day. Our opening ceremony will be at 7:30pm, Sunday, 11th February 2024 and meditations will begin the next morning. After that we’ll spend two days in each element…

Earth
Water
Fire
Air
Space
Consciousness

The last two days are devoted to overview and bring it all together.

Leaders so far confirmed: Subhadassi, Lokabandhu, Singhashri, Akshayapradipa, Maitridevi and held by Amaragita.

With ticket options to suit everyone from full event to pay as you go.

Anuruddha Project

Come and join the Anuruddha Project

15th April - 8th August 2024

The Anuruddhas were a group of friends living and practising together in the Buddha's time. When the Buddha visited them, he was very moved by their harmony and compassion, as they had made living together a deep part of their practice.

The Anuruddha Project aims to follow this example, providing a place for people to come together to practice deeply together. This is an opportunity to join and help create a small community that will spend four months together learning about the ways of Buddhafield and ways of Buddhism.

The aim of the project is to equip the successful candidate with a set of skills and provide them with a set of connections that will enrich their lives significantly, opening up new avenues of exploration that will be extremely wholesome, relevant and, potentially, very profound.

The course will last for four months and will be mainly embedded - though not exclusively- within Buddhafield events.
