Anglican Church in England and Wales makes significant Safeguarding reforms

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse’s investigation into the Anglican Church in England and Wales has led to the Church committing to significant reform. The law in England and Wales will also be amended to add religious leaders to the definition of ‘positions of trust’. This new law will make it a criminal offence for religious leaders and teachers to have sex with anyone under 18 who would be deemed to be 'in their care', even though the age of consent is 16. We can expect that this will apply to members of the Triratna Buddhist Order, in relation to teenagers in our sangha or who look up to us as Order members and Dharma teachers in related settings.
