We are delighted to announce that the ordinations of the following three men took place at Sudarshanaloka Retreat Centre in New Zealand on 23rd March 2023:

Roberto Gonzalez-Casanovas becomes Buddhanusarin (both ‘a’s are long), a Sanskrit name meaning “He who is a follower of the Buddha”

Private preceptor Ratnavyuha

Malcolm Dow becomes Sthiraratna (long ‘i’), a Sanskrit name meaning “He whose jewel-like quality is firm and steadfast”

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to announce that Angela Riley from Melbourne, Australia was publicly ordained at the Melbourne Buddhist Centre on Sunday 12th March, 2023.

She becomes Pasannā.

The a has the short vowel sound as in ‘cut’. The ā as in ‘father’. Emphasis on the second syllable.

Name meaning: She who is happy, bright, clear, virtuous and devoted.

Saturday March 18th: Subhadramati and friends celebrating equal ordination for women

To celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, we’re teaming up with Manchester Buddhist Centre in the UK to shine a spotlight on one of Triratna’s distinctive emphases – equal ordination for women. In fact, when Sangharakshita our founder created our Order in 1968 the very first person to be ordained was a woman.

Subhadramati, Dhammadinna, Dayanandi and friends will tell this 55 year history through their personal experiences....
