From Shabda Articles on Fri, 10 Oct, 2025 - 16:48

Adam Frank, Marcelo Gleiser, and Evan Thompson: The Blind Spot: Why Science Cannot Ignore Human Experience. Cambridge/Mass; London: MIT Press 2024

If you have read Evan Thompson’s book Why I Am Not A Buddhist you may remember him inviting – if not urging – contemporary Buddhists to not only bring the critical potential of traditional Buddhist philosophy and practice to bear on science but also open up to being challenged by science in their assumptions, views and doctrines. In parts, his...

Systrarnas Sånger

From Stockholms buddhistcenter on Thu, 9 Oct, 2025 - 00:00

First Retreat for Italian Speakers

From Triratna News on Wed, 8 Oct, 2025 - 18:49

In September we held our first long weekend for Triratna Italian speakers at Adhiṣṭhāna. We had about 12 people on the retreat. Some flew from Italy and other parts of Italy to be with us. We enjoyed studying a passage from Sangharakshita translated into Italian and the retreatants very much enjoyed the chance to participate in Dharma discussion in their mother tongue. It was a very lively discussion group. We also did puja and rituals in Italian.

We hope that...

Monsters of the Mind

From Sheffield Buddhist Centre on Wed, 8 Oct, 2025 - 00:00
Join us for an evening exploring some of the most evocative and mysterious imagery from the Wheel of Life. In this talk we’ll turn our attention to three realms that speak vividly to the struggles of human existence: the asuras, the pretas, and the hell realms. These images are at once mythic and immediate, shocking and compelling, offering us a mirror into the tensions, cravings, and sufferings that shape our lives. Using imagination and reflection, this journey into the realms invites us to see ourselves in new ways—and to discover what possibilities for freedom and compassion emerge when we dare to look more closely. During this theme we'll be looking at The Wheel of Life, a living symbol that encompasses the entirety of existence. We'll learn how to escape from the prison and sufferings of Samsara, towards ever increasing positive and expansive states of being, towards the ultimate goal of Awakening. We'll be taking a contemporary look at this ancient symbol, visiting it's realms and their beings from the depths of the hell realm to the heights of the heavenly abodes, and asking what do these realms look like in our modern society and world? Expect support for home practice, practical ideas of how to bring these traditional teachings into your everyday life, and reflections on how to make your Great Escape!

On this occasion of 25th anniversary of Aryaloka Computer Education, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Aryaloka and Aryaketu for their invaluable support in helping me settle here in Australia.
