The first volume to be published:
Dr Ambedkar and the Revival of Buddhism, I
Throughout his life, Sangharakshita, Triratna’s founder and teacher, has poured his energy into bringing the Dharma to men and women from all backgrounds and walks of life, nationalities, castes and classes. His output in terms of the written and spoken word is very great. Last year over 1,000 of us contributed to his 90th birthday present: to fund the publication of his Complete Works. Now the first volume to be published is here! And it’s no coincidence that it is coming out this week.
Friday 14th October is a day of great significance. This year it marks the 60th anniversary of the conversion of Dr Ambedkar to Buddhism, an act which has enabled millions of others to likewise leave behind them ‘the hell of caste’ and inspired many to follow the peaceful teachings of the Buddha. Dr Ambedkar’s life and message is an inspiration to Triratna members all over the world.
Sangharakshita met Dr Ambedkar on three occasions and, after the great leader's tragic and untimely death, continued his work in bringing the Buddha’s Dharma to people in India. Today there are more than 600 Triratna Order members and ten thousand mitras in India
Dr Ambedkar and the Buddhist Revival, I, from Windhorse Publications includes Ambedkar and Buddhism, Sangharakshita’s clear, moving - sometimes enthralling - account of the great man’s life, work and significance plus 33 lectures and 3 question-and-answer sessions from his 1981-2 India Lecture tour. There you will find many Dharma teachings on topics ranging from ethics, meditation and wisdom to Buddhism and education; from the symbolism of Asoka’s animals to the great revolutions of the past and Dr Ambedkar’s peaceful revolution of today.
In this 15-minute video, Kalyanaprabha, one of the book’s two editors, introduces us to it.
