Competition: Help Animate Mara's Army!
Entries welcome from 4-17 year olds

Dear Families,

I’m creating a video about the life of the Buddha.

Support Aryajit's new animated work: 'A Brief History of Buddhism in Six Minutes'

One of the most enjoyable parts of creating the video is drawing Mara (the "Lord of Death") and his army, who try to stop the Buddha gaining Enlightenment by attacking him. I have been drawing beings from indian mythology, like Raksanas and Yaksas, but also skeleton armies, dinosaurs, dragons (as you can see from the attached sketches) but I need your help completing the army!

I’m holding a competition for children to design a being for Mara's army. The being can be purely from the depths of your imagination or you can draw inspiration from mythology or books and so on.

There are two age categories: a 4-11 category and 12-17.

You can use whatever medium you wish to make the design: pencil, pen, paint, charcoal, sculpture... And I will draw your design into the animation.

I will choose my favourite design from each category, and put it in my ‘Legend of the Buddha’ animation, which will be released on Wesak Day, 23rd May. I will also post other designs on social media.

Please submit your designs by email

The deadline for the competition is the 30th of April.

Have fun - and let me know if you have any questions!
