Clear Vision NewsByte: “Social Engagement and Liberation” conference, Nagpur

Clear Vision’s latest NewsByte (8 minutes) gives a strong impression of the atmosphere, participants and content of the ‘Social Engagement and Liberation’ conference, held 11th-14th October at Triratna’s Nagaloka Centre, near Nagpur, India.

Held to mark the 60th anniversary of Dr Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism, the conference was a collaboration between Triratna and the International Network of Engaged Buddhists.

Clear Vision director Sanghadhara covered the conference for NewsByte. He writes:

“The conference was attended by Buddhists from all over the Buddhist world. The more than 24 speakers included Dharmachari Subhuti, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo, Ven. Chao-Hwei, Ven. Pomnyun Sunim and Dr Christie Yu-ling Chang, to name just a few.

People spoke with real passion for the Dharma practice and its social relevance. I found it incredibly inspiring to be with brothers and sisters in the Dharma from so many different traditions.

The conference left me with increased confidence on Triratna's understanding and practice of the Dharma, a greater appreciation of Sangharakshita's vision of the sangha and of the relevance of his presentation of the Dharma.

It gave me great joy, engaging in real harmony and collaboration with Buddhists from all traditions, coming together in our differences, but on the basis of our common refuges, the three jewels. I hope we can come together more and more effectively to be a greater force for good in the world.”
