Money, Relationships, Freedom & Truth

TALKS ON BUDDHISM

12pm/Talk: The Truth about Relationships. With Vishvantara.

Far from suggesting a cool, detached removal from emotional involvement with others, the Buddha's teaching involves the cultivation of emotion at every level. What is the truth about our relationships, and how can it help us transform them?

1pm/Talk: The Truth about Money. With Subhadramati.

Money can be seen as the ultimate symbol of value. But what is really of value to us?

2pm/Talk: The Truth about Truth. With Jnanavaca.

What does Buddhism say about the nature of reality beyond the sphere of perception and concepts?

3pm/Talk: The Truth about Freedom. With Satyadasa.

Basic freedom is vital for happiness, and usually hard won. But is there a freedom to which all humans can aspire, regardless of wealth, race and nationality? The Buddha said all useful teachings have the taste of freedom.

MEDITATION

By focusing on the breath one becomes aware of the mind’s tendency to jump from one thing to another. The simple discipline of concentration brings one back to the present moment and all the richness of experience that it contains. It is a way to develop mindfulness: an alert and sensitive awareness. As well as this, the Mindfulness of Breathing meditation is a good antidote to restlessness and anxiety, and a good way to relax. Concentration on the breath has a positive effect on one’s entire physical and mental state.

The Mindfulness of Breathing will be taught at: 11.15am, 12.15pm, 1.15pm, 2.15pm and 3.15pm

RITUAL

With poetic verses and chanting, Buddhist ritual helps us open up to mystery and value. Why not come along, have a go and see what it’s like? 4pm
