Exciting opportunities to join the Vajraloka Retreat Centre Team

Closing date for expressions of interest: 1st August 2024

Vajraloka Retreat Centre is set on a hillside in the beautiful, wild landscape of North Wales. We have been running meditation retreats here for over forty years, in the context of Triratna Buddhist Community.

We welcome people of any gender onto our retreats, and to join our team, which has been mixed since 2022. We are now keen to expand our team, and encourage expressions of interest from Order Members and Mitras with experience of going on retreat. We value diversity within our team.

We have 3 roles available. You do not need to have experience in these areas, if you have a openness to learn new skills. These roles are all open-ended, or if you would like to come for 6 months or a year only, please also get in touch. The roles are:

- Care of our buildings; doing basic repairs, liaising with contractors for more complex jobs, overseeing routine checks and services.

- Care of food provision; ordering and cooking vegan food, caring for the kitchen, arranging  regular guest cooks.

- Care of the indoor environment; creating a welcoming and clean space, decorating and refreshing, ordering household goods.

All roles involve being on a retreat as organiser every now and then, guiding and helping retreatants and retreat team members with practicalities. Work at Vajraloka is varied and involves many aspects of the centre’s running in addition to a specific role. This includes some physical tasks. A full driving licence will be helpful as the nearest town is a drive away.

We can offer:

- A friendly and supportive team context, including team outings.

- Time and support for your own spiritual practice and interests.

- Opportunities to attend our retreats and contribute to them as appropriate.

- A commitment to increasing and valuing diversity within our teams and retreats.

- Your contributions will be valued at meetings with our supportive council.

- Your own room in a spacious natural landscape.

- Varied work and routines and the opportunity to learn new skills.

- A personal allowance and perks, with rent, food and bills all covered.

Write to us at info@vajraloka.org with an expression of interest by 1st August 2024. Please respond to the following points to give us a sense of who you are:

- Tell us a bit about yourself generally.

- Why do you want to live and work at Vajraloka?

- What is your connection with Vajraloka, if any?

- What skills and experience can you offer? For example, organisational skills, IT skills, cooking skills, practical skills, communication skills, project management skills, and/or many more.

- Tell us about any experience you have of living communally and how you have found this.

- Tell us about your relationship with meditation.

- What is your level of involvement with Triratna Buddhist Community?

- Is there anything you would like us to know about your needs and what supports you to manage them, eg health issues, neurodiversity, physical ability.

- Is there any specific role that you are interested in?

- Roughly, when would you be able to move?

When we receive your email it will be shared with the current team and we will get back to you with next steps after the closing date. We may arrange a video-call, and/or invite you to come spend a few days with us. We may ask for contact details for 2 Order Members who know you and you are happy for us to talk to about your interest in living here.

If you have any queries or would like an informal discussion before deciding on an expression of interest, please do not hesitate to get in touch on info@vajraloka.org
