Suryagupta, Chair of the London Buddhist Centre, along with Vimalasara (Chair of Vancouver Buddhist Centre), are taking part in ‘Black & Buddhist’ - a free online event, from 18th until 25th February which explores what Buddhism can teach us about race, resilience, transformation, and spiritual freedom.

Suryagupta gave a keynote talk at the London Buddhist Centre at the beginning of February which touched on the events of last year including her response to the some of the conversations she had with Subhuti on Buddhism and race.

Re-watch Awareness in Revolutionary: Race, Bias and Freedom

'Black & Buddhist' hosts over 20 leading African-descended Buddhist teachers who will offer their wisdom and insights about Buddhist teachings, being Black practitioners, and the possibility of a truly representative American Buddhism.

The summit will include contributions from Angela Dews, Ruth King, Larry Ward, Rhonda Magee, Suryagupta Dharmacharini, Justin Miles, Valerie Brown, Kamilah Majied, Sebene Selassie, Spring Washam, Vimalasara (Valerie) Mason-John, Fresh White, Breeshia Wade, and many more.

Produced by The Awake Network and Shambhala Publications, the Black and Buddhist Summit will be hosted by Pamela Ayo Yetunde, editor of the recently published anthology Black and Buddhist, as well as Lama Dawa Tarchin Phillips.

All people interested in Buddhism, race and religion, harmony in the sangha, and writing about Buddhism, Zen, and practice, are welcome.
