“Don’t go there” is an often repeated phrase, but what would it mean to go there, to approach what we usually avoid and be present to our whole experience, whatever it is and to fully inhabit being here?
This ancient Mesopotamian myth of Inanna is considered to be the oldest recorded written text currently known in the world. It is the story of a formidable goddess who rules the heavens and who journeys to the underworld. A heroine who uses all her guile to get all that she wants and who also has the courage to let it all go.
Over four sessions, through storytelling, reflection, discussion, meditation and ritual we will collectively explore Innana’s story and its themes of courage, surrender, integration and freedom. We will do this by viewing the myth through the lens of the Buddha’s Dharma to reveal its relevance to our own lives and practice, especially the necessity for all of us to go by the way of ‘spiritual death and spiritual rebirth’.
By accompanying Inanna on her journey, by going there we may also discover a way of being here for ourselves.
