On Saturday we had our Buddhist Action Day at the North London Buddhist Centre.
We had a full program including meditation, vegan lunch, guerrilla gardening, a short film from Joanna Macy and a ritual to end. Our day started off busy as we had combined our meditation with our Saturday morning meditation class. Santva led us in a double sit where we did the mindfulness of breathing and the metta bhavana. We also had a reflection based on the Personal Guidelines for the Great Turning by Joanna Macy which was very inspiring.
After lunch we headed to a small patch on the pavement where we had guerrilla gardened last year and did some much needed clearing out and planted some new things. Our enthusiastic team picked up litter from the street and the neighboring flowerbed. Passes by stopped to express gratitude!
Back at the centre we watched a short film hearing Joanna Macy explain the Great Turning. It was a great insight into how Buddhist values can translate into making the world a better to place. We finished the day in the shrine room with another period of reflection, a mantra and transferring our merits.
A big thank you to everyone who came and took part!
